FAQ
-
What do I feed the axolotls? Our axolots are currently being fed frozen bloodworms, but as they get older they can eat soft pellets and larger live worms.
-
How long does it take to ship?We only ship priority rate mail, so you should expect to recieve your axolotl within a few days of purchase.
-
How are the axolotls shipped? The axolotls are shipped in flat rate boxes with insulation and ice packs to ensure safe travels during the hot summer months. The boxes are also labeled so that the post office handles them as carefully as possible.

What do I need to prepare for a baby axolotl? We reccomend that baby axolotls are kept in a bare bottom 20gal tank (or a 10gal grow out tank) with a sponge filter and air pump. Feel free to decorate the tank however you like, but axolotls have been known to crush live plants. We reccomend large sturdy fake plants and hides for this reason. Gravel should not be placed in axolotl tanks, but once they mature adding fine sand to the tank is okay. You should also invest in water primer and a siphon or turkey baster to help clean the tank during regular water changes.
-
How do I acclimate my axolotl to it's new tank?We reccomend floating the axolotl in the bag or a small tuppeware container for 30 minutes, so that they acclimate to the new tank's water temperature. After that, slowly introduce the new tank water to the axolotl for an additional 30 minutes before you fully submerge it into the tank. After that your new baby should be good to go!

Should I buy more than one axolotl?Axolotls are not social creatures and do not need to be housed with others. However, these axolotls are past their cannibalistic phase and can be housed together if you wish. The standard rule of thumb is one adult axolotl needs 20gal of space, and every additional axolotl requires an additional 10gal. Please house them in a long tank, as opposed to tall, because axolotls spend much of their time walking along the ground.
